Let’s vote for jobs

By Victor Angula /

In November this year Namibians are going to the polls to choose and elect their leaders, to vote people who are going to be in the top offices of government for the next five years.

While there were a few independent candidates who wanted to be voted to power, they all did not make it through onto the ballot paper, so that all the people who want to be voted to power are contesting for this privilege on the back of political parties.

Some parties are old, like Swapo, PDM, Swanu, and Nudo, which have been around since before Independence, but there are also new parties, like IPC, NEFF, LPM, AR, and even ADM and BCM which just got registered this year or last year.

There are many other parties.

And all of them are now going around with bags full of promises. They are promising us everything, except heaven.

Even the Body of Christ Movement (BCM) party it is promising us everything, except heaven. (One wonders why BCM cannot add ‘heaven’ to the bag of promises!)

But one thing that we want to see is someone who is promising us jobs. Promise us jobs and tell us what we must do if we elect you to power but then you fail to deliver the jobs you promised us.

Every promise must have consequences if it is unfulfilled.

Anybody who can go to the extent of promising and saying what consequences must come on him if he fail to deliver, that is the one we should vote for.

Anybody and any party which puts jobs at the top of the priorities, that is the party to vote for.

Let us vote for results.

Therefore as the parties and candidates go around during these weeks, let’s listen to them carefully, and let’s look at them carefully, to see which and who is really proving to be a candidate worthy of our votes.

We must vote based on what we want. We want jobs. We do want houses, water, electricity and so on, but all these can only come from jobs. If we have jobs, then all these basic necessities will come naturally.

But without jobs, nothing can come. Houses come to people who are working and earning an income. Even water and electricity can only be afforded by those who have income.

Anybody who promises people houses, water, electricity and cooking oil, without jobs, is a liar.

So let’s tie our votes to jobs.
